For those who do not have the resources to manage a network by themselves, many opaque fiber optic providers offer wavelength-managed services that include support and expertise.

A communication service provider may extend its service or offer more accessibility in a particular area by grafting itself onto a black fiber network.

In a separate use case, financial institutions that manage technological innovations might want to implement a variety of interfaces over a carrier's standard options.
